Treasurer Teresa Donnelly made the following remarks at today’s meeting of the Board of Directors of the Law Society of Ontario.
At the October 1, 2021 Convocation meeting the Law Society will present a degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa (LLD) to Franklyn Harris Bennett, one of Canada’s pre-eminent experts in creditor-debtor, bankruptcy and insolvency law.
In April, the Law Society of Ontario’s Board of Directors (also known as Convocation) approved a five-year pilot project – now named Access to Innovation (A2I) – which will allow providers of innovative technological legal services (ITLS) to serve consumers while complying with operating conditions that protect the public.
September 30, 2021 marks the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This federal statutory holiday received Royal Assent in June and is intended to honour the lost children and residential school survivors, their families and communities. This is an important commemoration of the painful history and the impacts of residential schools which continue today.
The Law Society is implementing a Vaccine Policy for all employees and visitors.
