Law Society named GTA Top Employer for 11th consecutive year

December 12, 2016

Toronto  The Law Society of Upper Canada has been named one of Greater Toronto’s Top Employers for 2017. This is the 11th year in a row that the legal regulator has received this prestigious honour.

“Receiving this recognition for the past 11 years is a remarkable achievement that I am proud to share with our employees who continue to make the Law Society such a great place to work,” says the Law Society’s Chief Executive Officer, Robert Lapper. “It is truly gratifying to see the Law Society acknowledged yet again for its inclusive and professional environment — and one that constantly strives for excellence.”

Held annually, the competition is run by Mediacorp Canada Inc., the editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers. It is open to private and public sector employers of any size who have head offices or principal places of business located in the GTA.

Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offer the most progressive and forward-thinking programs.

The Law Society was chosen as one of the GTA’s Top 2017 Employers mainly for the following reasons:

  • supporting the physical and mental well-being of employees, offering onsite instructor-led classes such as yoga, Pilates and meditation, as well as naturopathic and massage therapy sessions throughout the year;
  • investing in long-term career development, with tuition subsidies for courses, subsidies for professional accreditation and a number of in-house and online training options;
  • providing maternity and parental leave top-up payments to employees who are new mothers, fathers or adoptive parents and offering a number of flexible working arrangements to help them ease into their new role as parents.

Further information can be found on Mediacorp’s Eluta website.

The Law Society of Upper Canada is the governing body for more than 50,000 lawyers and 8,000 paralegals in the province of Ontario, Canada. The mandate of the Law Society is to govern the legal profession in the public interest by upholding the independence, integrity and honour of the legal profession for the purpose of advancing the cause of justice and the rule of law.
