Dates to Remember for Incoming 2022-23 Lawyer Candidates

Candidates are required to also access their Law Society online account for further deadlines, notices and requirements pertaining to their status in the Licensing Process.

Deadlines are calculated in BUSINESS days, not calendar days unless otherwise indicated.

Application and Transcripts

  • Accommodations
    Examination Accommodation request due date New applicants to the Licensing Process must submit accommodation request forms and supporting documentation by the licensing process application deadline.

    Candidates seeking a revision to an existing, Law Society-approved accommodation plan or requesting an accommodation based on a new or emerging condition/ground must make a request prior to the applicable accommodation deadline.

  • Licensing Term
    2022-23 Licensing Year May 1, 2022 – April 30, 2023.

    Candidates who enroll in the 2022-23 Lawyer Licensing Process and/or register to begin any part of the Licensing Process in that cycle will be considered a 2022-23 candidate.
     
    2022-23 Licensing Term  May 1, 2022 – April 30, 2025.

    All candidates are given up to three licensing cycles to complete the Lawyer Licensing Process requirements.
  • Application Deadlines
    Online application launch October 2021
    Application (online and paper copy) due date December 1, 2021
    Application fee due date December 1, 2021
  • Transcript Deadlines
    Transcript due date August 5, 2022*

    *For third year law students writing the summer sitting as a first attempt.

    All other candidates must have their institution submit a final official transcript/NCA certificate no later than the  examination registration deadline, or if articling, prior to commencing articles; or by August 5, 2022 if registered for the 2022-23 LPP.
    NCA Certificate of Qualification due date Due no later than the examination registration deadline, or if articling, prior to commencing articles; or by the LPP registration deadline.

EXAMS AND STUDY MATERIALS

  • Examination Dates

  • Examination Deferral Deadlines

    To defer an examination to a future sitting, candidates must submit a Registration or Deferment Form to the Licensing and Accreditation Department as an attachment through their online account no later than the applicable deadline.

  • Examination Registration Deadlines

    To be fully registered for a licensing examination, the following conditions must be met:

    • Candidates must be fully enrolled in the Licensing Process well in advance of the applicable examination registration deadline in order to have access to the invoices for the examinations and study materials.
    • Candidates must make payment for the examinations and study materials no later than the applicable examination registration deadline.
    • Candidates must have their institution (or the NCA) submit a final official transcript/NCA certificate to Licensing and Accreditation no later than the applicable registration deadline.

  • Examination Results

    Examination results will be released approximately 8 weeks after the final examination date in a sitting, unless otherwise indicated.

  • Study Materials - Release Date

    Candidates who wish to obtain access to the study materials as soon as they are released for the licensing cycle must make payment for the materials by the April fee payment deadline.

    All candidates must make full payment no later than the applicable registration deadline for an examination.  Please note that candidates will not have online access to the study materials until fees have been paid and have been released for the licensing year.

    Study Material Release Date: Online access: April 11, 2022 - more information will be sent to candidates on this date through their online account.

  • Monthly Payment Plan
    Plan Type: Enrolment Deadline Date:
    5 or 10-month SPRING Enrolment Due Date
    (First payment to commence May 15, 2022)
    April 8, 2022 (for candidates who want to obtain study materials starting April 11, 2022).
     
    Otherwise, the enrolment due date is May 13, 2022.
    5-month FALL Enrolment Due Date
    (First payment to commence October 15, 2022)
     
    April 8, 2022 (for candidates who want to obtain study materials starting April 11, 2022).
     
    Thereafter, candidates must enrol by the examination registration deadline for the invoice(s) they wish to add to a payment plan or by October 13, 2022, which ever date is sooner.
    10-month WINTER Enrolment Due Date
    (First payment to commence December 10, 2022)
    April 8, 2022 (for candidates who want to obtain study materials starting April 11, 2022).
     
    Thereafter, candidates should enrol by the examination registration deadline on the invoice they wish to add to a payment plan, or by December 10, 2022, which ever date is sooner.
     
     
     
  • Repayable Allowance Program
    Repayable Allowance Program – application due date 30 BUSINESS days prior to any examination registration deadline to allow enough time for consideration

EXPERIENTIAL TRAINING PROGRAM

  • Articling
    Candidates who wish to be called to the bar in June 2022 must commence their articling term by the following dates:   
        August 5, 2022
    Articles of Clerkship due date To be submitted once the articling term begins and no later than 10 BUSINESS days after the commencement of articles.
    Experiential Training Fee-Articling June 15, 2022
    (Candidates are to refer to their invoice for additional information on the payment deadline)
  • Articling Exemption
