Biographical Sketch
George Smith Holmested was born in 1841. He was admitted as a student-at-law by the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1860 and was called to the Bar in 1865. During his legal career, he served as Referee of Osgoode Hall, Registrar of the Chancery Division and Senior Registrar of the High Court. He was also author of a number of published texts on various aspects of the law. Holmested died in 1928.
Scope and Content
Fonds consists of correspondence created and accumulated by George Smith Holmested, a Toronto-based lawyer and author of many law-related texts. The correspondence relates specifically to Holmested's publication, "The Mechanics' Lien Acts of Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia".
