Conduct rules amended: Convocation amended the lawyer and paralegal rules of conduct to reflect recent changes to the contingency fee legislative regime. See the full report.

Rules of practice and procedure amended: The Law Society Tribunal’s Rules of Practice and Procedure were amended with the addition of Rule 21: Failure to co-operate applications. The new rule and related amendments streamline the summary hearing process. See the full report.  

DHCs reappointed:  Fay Faraday, Lai-King Hum and Natasha Persaud were reappointed as Discrimination and Harassment Counsel (DHCs) for a term of three years. The DHC program confidentially assists anyone who may have experienced discrimination or harassment by a lawyer, paralegal or student member of the Law Society. Learn more.

Annual General Meeting: The Law Society’s AGM will take place virtually on Wednesday, May 11 at 5:15 p.m. Learn more.

Human Rights Monitoring Group (HRMG) interventions approved: Convocation approved letters of intervention regarding Corporación Colectivo de Abogados José Alvear Restrepo of Colombia and Waleed Abu al-Khair of Saudi Arabia. The HRMG monitors human rights violations that target members of the legal profession and the judiciary. See the full report.
