Lawyer and paralegal conduct rules amended

Convocation to consider changing name to Law Society of Ontario
To increase awareness and relevance of the Law Society with the public, the Strategic Communications Steering Group will bring a report to Convocation in the fall recommending a change of name to the Law Society of Ontario. The Steering Group is overseeing the Law Society’s work on the strategic priority to engage stakeholders and the public with responsive communications. 

Deferred decision items
The following decision items were deferred: 

  • the proposed amendments to the advertising rules respecting real estate transactions
  • the proposed amendments to the lawyer and paralegal conduct rules regarding competence and the provision of legal opinions
  • the decision item from the Alternative Business Structures Working Group.
